June 11, 2016 - June 12, 2016

The Tough Mudder is a 10-12 miles of mud and obstacles built to test your mental grit, camaraderie and all-around physical fitness. It's a team-oriented challenge with no winner, no finisher medal, no clock to race against—just an ice cold beer and a few good scrapes from a day spent outside and free from everyday stress. Tough Mudder is for anyone who has ever followed their gut, tried to defy gravity, chosen “dare” over “truth,” taken risks, sought thrills, or is generally awesome at life. Turns out, it's all been training.

Northstar California Bike Park: Enduro Race Series

This rapidly growing discipline combines the physical endurance of cross-country mountain bike riding with the technical difficulty and excitement of downhill mountain bike racing. The 2016 Enduro Races will consist of a minimum of two timed Special Stages linked together by un-timed Transfer Stages. The timed Special Stages will be a variation of downhill courses. The un-timed Transfer Stages could require uphill pedaling and the use of our chair lifts to get to each Special Stage. There will be no assigned start times at the Special Stages. Racers will start the Special Stages every 40 seconds in no particular order. The competitor in each category with the fastest combined time from the Special Stages will win the event. The top three racers in each division will receive awards at the conclusion of each race.

Clinic participants will learn the core, fundamental skills of downhill mountain bike riding and racing. These core skills are not intuitive, unless someone taught you them, it is unlikely that would know, understand and most importantly consistently do them.

Few US racers know the core skills and even fewer do them well.  BetterRide Head Coach Gene Hamilton did not learn many of these skills until his sixth through tenth seasons as a pro racer.  BetterRide coaches get the rider to understand these techniques with explanations, demonstrations, drills and on-trail application of the skills.

Core Mountain Biking Skills Learned In Camp

  • Correct Body Position, so you can ride smoother, faster and with more control
  • Vision – How to Look Ahead Correctly! We are known to look ahead but few racers do it as well and consistently as Greg Minnaar.  He will teach you how your vision works, how to look ahead and give you vision drills to master
  • Bike Set up for Optimal Riding and Control
  • How to Corner like a Pro with Take Home Drills to Master your cornering
  • Advanced Cornering Technique
  • How to Brake to Go Faster!
  • How to Use Your Brakes for Speed
  • Correct Technique for Downhill Switchbacks
  • How to Clear Large Obstacles
  • How to Interpret the Trail to Ride Fast and Smooth
  • How to Pump the Trail for Free Speed
  • How to Clear Obstacles and Smooth out the Trail with Bump Jumps

Additional information and registration information can be found at www.BetterRide.net

Schedule

3pm – 6:30pm Beer Tastings

3pm – 4:30pm | Ventucky String Band

Like a jukebox of old 78 records, The Ventucky String Band is reminiscent of a time when Texas Swing still dominated the AM radio airwaves, and Bluegrass music was as novel as the arrival of television.  Where some have tried to diminish Ventura as “Ventucky,” this band sees their name not as a veiled jab at Bluegrass music or the city that brought them together— but instead as a tribute to the music and culture of the farmers, roustabouts, and cattlemen that helped grow the city during the early days of big-oil and agriculture in Ventura County.

Typical sets can vary from 1930’s Jazz & early Bluegrass, to cowboy ballads, folk, and honky-tonk—all seamlessly woven together with original songwriting that draws inspiration from the deep well-spring of American roots music.

Formed in 2010, this highly skilled multi-instrumental quartet features Matt Sayles, Dave White, and Lauren Donahue blending three part harmonies and original songwriting into a sound that harkens back to the golden age of country music, and the roots of the country and western sound of the 1930’s, 1940’s and 50’s.  Special guest, Brent Harding of "Social Distortion" will be performing with the band on upright bass.

Members of the Band have played professionally all over the U.S and Europe with appearances on the Wheeling West Virginia Jamboree (WWVA), as well as performances with Bluegrass, Country, Western Swing & Cajun legends like Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Asleep at the Wheel, Larry Sparks, Doyle Lawson, the Bellamy Brothers, Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Hot Club of Cowtown, and many more.

Brent Harding has played bass with Mike Ness and Social Distortion since 2004. His previous bands include Deke Dickerson and The Ecco-Fonics, The Eugene Edwards Band, The Lucky Stars, The Sleepwalkers and The What-Me Worry? Jug Band. He also plays stand up bass for the legendary Ventura bluegrass band, Whiskey Chimp.

5pm – 7pm | The Railsplitters

The Railsplitters, winners of the 2013 Rockygrass Best New Band competition are a high-energy bluegrass and americana band from Boulder Colorado.  Fresh off the success of their first album, The Railsplitters got busy touring the US, meeting wider audiences, and of course, spending hours in the tour van! As you can imagine from five members traveling across the United States, the musical array pouring out of the van onto the open highway was wildly eclectic, crossing over genre and time. From boundary breaking trip hop and electronica groups like Gorillaz and Thievery Corporation, to more direct influences like The Infamous Stringdusters and Lake Street Dive, the musical potpourri heard in their time on the road eventually began to seep into the band’s own music. With their new album, The Faster It Goes, they’re using these new sounds to break the bonds of bluegrass and unleash tradition. Lauren Stovall and the rest of the ‘Splitters suggest that using your roots to evolve is really at the heart of the genre, not unlike Bill Monroe, who himself was an innovator. With their finger on the pulse, The Railsplitters are pushing the genre forward with an adventurous spirit, carrying in the tradition of breaking boundaries with their innovative sound.
